Upon successful completion of the Certified Industrial Hygiene Practitioner (CIHP) course, participants will be able to:
Understand the history and principles of industrial hygiene.
Analyze workplace chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological hazards.
Gain practical skills in air sampling, equipment use, and hazard assessment.
Learn regulatory standards and their application in industrial hygiene practice.
Prepare to identify and address modern and emerging industrial hygiene challenges.
Understand how to plan and conduct surveys for air contaminants, noise, ventilation, heat, and illumination.
Perform measurements and specify requirements for obtaining contractual industrial hygiene services.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry or physics OR a bachelor's degree in a closely related biological or physical science from an accredited college or university. Three (3) years of acceptable work experience may be substituted for each year of an academic degree program (i.e., Twelve years of experience is equivalent to a bachelor's degree).
Work Experience:
Two years (2) of experience where at least 30% of your work is directly related to working in safety, industrial hygiene, or the environment is performed in this field. Education cannot be substituted for work experience. This requirement is in addition to the expertise used instead of education.
Other Experience:
Documented GED / Apprentice Certificate Completion / On-The-Job / Skills Training / or AA / BSc / BA in safety management or similar field. Certificates in occupational health and safety from OSHA or an authorized OSHA Training Institute Education Center (OTIEC), NEBOSH, National Safety Institute, Military Specialty Ratings (ARMY, NAVY, Marines, Coast Guard, Air Force, Space Force, & Reserves, National Guard, or similar training organizations from other countries will be considered.
The Certified Industrial Hygiene Practitioner course is designed for entry-level industrial hygienists, safety professionals, and environmental professionals with industrial hygiene responsibilities. This includes HSE officers, HSE engineers, safety supervisors, safety managers, occupational health and safety professionals, and environmental health specialists who want to expand their knowledge in industrial hygiene. Recent graduates with backgrounds in occupational health, environmental science, or engineering will also benefit from this course, as well as professionals transitioning into industrial hygiene from other fields.
